Art Guidelines

To help ensure quality control and fast service we ask that our clients follow these guidelines:

Color Separations
As a printer specializing in silk screening and pad printing, we are often faced with customer supplied artwork that was intended for the publishing industry where full-color process (CMYK; the use of 4 inks, cyan, yellow, magenta, and black are used to reproduce all colors) is used. If we use CMYK, the quality will suffer, and the cost would be substantially greater for the additional passes of the colors required for CMYK. For instance, a 2-color logo would be best printed with spot colors (the individual PMS colors), with CMYK we would be using 4 colors to achieve those 2 colors in the logo. Thus we require multi-color art to be separated into its PMS (Pantone Matching System) colors, otherwise significant art charges may apply. The exception to this rule is in our full-color labeling on such products as our Hand Sanitizers or Lip Balms.

Scanned Art
Scanned art is not recommended. The reason for this is that the image quality is most often undesirable, the file size is large, and the art is un-editable. If this method is utilized please scan the image as line art at 300 lpi (300lpi = 600dpi), save the image as vector line art in the TIFF EPS format. If a half-toned image, scan as black and white art at 300 lpi and save as a TIFF EPS format.

Internet Art
Art taken from a Web Site is unacceptable. The resolution of this type of art is 72 to 96dpi, about a 1/6 of the resolution we require.

Fonts
We ask that you supply us the fonts you used in your digital document. If this is not possible please 'convert text to outlines' or 'convert text to curves' in your document. If either of the above are not performed and we do not have the font, the job will be delayed till you provide the font or approve us to change the font. Note: If your art uses a font that we have and the font is not converted or included and we have the used font, their is a slight chance that even though they are named the same, that they may be slightly different (i.e. Mac to PC issue, etc.). When supplying fonts please be sure to provide both screen and Post Script fonts for each font used in the document.

File Formats
We work in a PC/Mac environment. For the majority of our jobs we use Adobe Illustrator. We also utilize the following: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PageMaker, Macromedia Freehand, Macromedia Flash, Quark Xpress, and Corel Draw. When saving your files save or export the document as an EPS (encapsulated post script) file. We also ask that you provide us the parent file of your art. For example, if using Adobe Illustrator save a copy of your document as a .EPS (yourfile.eps) and a copy as the format native to your program, such as .AI in Illustrator (yourfile.ai). This method ensures that we can edit your file and make changes if we happen to have the program you used to create it. If all else fails, export your document as a PDF (Portable Document File) and specify 600dpi as the resolution.

Storage Mediums
We can open and write a variety of storage medias including: CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R. If using any CD or DVD medium be sure to use the ISO format standard and not JOLIET to ensure cross-platform compatibility. We no longer accept art on 1.44 mb floppy disks, or Zip Disks. If you desire your disks to be returned, please specify a UPS shipper number or indicate if the disks can be included in your orders shipment.
